Does your small business really need a social media presence?

Frustrated Man on Computer

The short answer? Yes.

Ugh, are you sure?  Yeah, I’m afraid so.

It’s just such a pain to keep up with and there are so many more pressing things to do!

I get it, and I hear this a lot. Keeping your online presence updated can be quite overwhelming. From updating your website, to posting on Facebook and Twitter, to responding to Yelp comments, to promoting events, to creating and uploading YouTube videos, to blogging, to sending updates to your mailing list, to whatever else you should probably be doing to keep your customers up-to-date, most small businesses find many of these fall by the wayside as they become consumed by the daily grind of running their business.

But the thing is, if potential customers visit your Twitter feed and see that you haven’t posted anything in ages, it makes them wonder whether you’re still in business, or whether you will be responsive to their questions or concerns. There are also excellent opportunities you could be missing out on to attract new customers if you knew how to take advantage of the advertising tools on Facebook and Google for instance. But who has the time to spend figuring out the ever-changing rules of the internet and social media?

That’s where a Virtual Assistant like myself comes in. I can sit down with you, discuss your goals and we can set up an online strategy. I can:

  • Create and schedule social media posts to go out on a weekly basis;
  • Write blog posts;
  • Create and upload videos;
  • Create graphics;
  • Update your website;
  • Promote events;
  • Create and send attractive email newsletters or other updates to your customers;
  • Do some basic SEO to improve your search engine rankings;
  • and much more.

This is what I spend most of my time doing, and I work almost exclusively with small businesses. I have learned many tricks of the trade and do my best to keep up with the trends. I can help you improve your online presence. And it probably won’t cost nearly as much as you may think, because I am not an expensive marketing agency, and my rates are quite reasonable.

New Websites!

Recently launched are two new websites I created in WordPress. The first is for a real estate professional. The challenge: His property listings on Loopnet were no longer visible to the general public as the site was transitioning to a new, more expensive service with Costar. He needed to be able to direct potential clients to be able to still see the information about his listings online.

I had already been creating fact sheets on each of his properties, so I created a simple website for him which lists all properties and their fact sheets, which is also easily updated.Robert Szilvas website

More recently, I redesigned a website for a busy musician. The challenge: His website host was having a lot of server down time. His design in Flash was also outdated and didn’t always load properly, depending on the user’s browser, plus he couldn’t easily add to and update his events calendar, so it had fallen into disuse.

I created a new, responsive design for him that formats well on both laptop and phone and all sizes in between, and gave him an events calendar program that he can easily update via his own admin panel, and transferred his site to a new, more reliable hosting service. He also requested a logo, which I created for him.

In real estate? Get professional-looking fact sheets.

If you’re a busy real estate agent, you may not have the graphic design skills or the time needed to be putting together fact sheets. But having a professional design to advertise your properties is essential to getting the sale.

Consider outsourcing this work to me, just sketch out how you’d like it to look, send over some photos and I’ll handle the rest!

One of the nice features about creating a website with WordPress is that it is responsive, meaning that it will resize/rearrange itself based on your screen size. If you are on a laptop or desktop, you can play around with this feature by grabbing the corner of your browser window and resizing it. As the window gets smaller, you should notice that the menu changes (becomes an expandable button), and the header image resizes accordingly.

My site, which you are on currently, is also a responsive WordPress site. You can test my site the same way, and as you resize the window, you should notice that the two-column layout becomes a one-column layout once the screen size is too narrow to accommodate two columns any longer (keep your eye on the sidebar where the blog posts are listed, as the screen shrinks, that block moves down to the bottom of the page).
